Well, the invitations arrived today and in true Divine fashion, Bette has recycled…the invitations looked somewhat familiar…this original artwork was created by Hilary Knight in 1997 (you know, now that I think about it, this might have been the invite to the first Hulaween Ball, duh!) and I really love his work.
He drew “Eloise” for Kay Thompson , plus a lot of Broadway show posters (“No, No Nanette” and Angela Lansbury’s version of “Gypsy” are probably the most famous). Anyway I find the card to colorful, whimsical, and fun!
It’s the “Don’t Trash New York” and “Save Our Parks” campaign! It’s a tri-fold invitation with the inside inviting you to Hulaween to celebrate her 60th birthday and the 10th anniversary of The New York Restoration Project honoring Sting and Trudie Styler featuring a Special Perfomance by some dude named Elton John.
Of course, this will happen on Halloween:

( Mister D: I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I’m thinking you just might be told to “go f**k yourself!” if ya don’t wear a costume! OH MISTER D!!!!! You didn’t say that!!!!…I’m coming as Cheney!!!!)
Okay, for the next part, we have the Live Auction, which I already told you guys would be hosted by one of the greatest all time funny man performers…or just a great performer, hands down, Mr. Martin Short.
Barry and I have been a big follower of his since the old SCTV days (go look it up newbies!)
I have a picture up here for you, but in case you can’t read it, some of the fabulous items being auctioned off include:
For a complete list of auction items, call 212-573-6933, or visit www.charitybuzz.com.
At Charity Buzz, all of us BetteHeads have a chance to bid on Bette items and other items even if we don’t attend Hulaween, so you might as well visit there and register ahead of time.
However, to register, you must have a credit card.
Now, here’ s where it gets a little more interesting. The pricing structure has been changed pretty drastically allowing for more people to “experience the divine.” I think it’s also a reflection about how hard the times are….with gas prices at an all time high and the generosity of the American people when it came to chipping in for the relief efforts towards the evacuees of Hurricane Katrina and Rita, and who knows how much it will take to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast….people are kind of strapped, but giving as much as they can. So this is awesome…
Anyway the pricing structure is broken down between 2 committees…I don’t have a clue what that means, but the Hulaween Committee is where the cool people hang out (except for me, because I can’t afford it…LOL) And the tables in this committee are broken down like this:
The above basically are tables for 10 with primo seats for the show….
The second committee is the Island Benefit Committee
(they ask that you please purchase a minimum of two individual tickets to join our island benefit committee)
