Bette Midler Announces End of Two-Year Residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ — Bette Midler announced today that the final performance of her critically acclaimed Las Vegas show The Showgirl Must Go On will be Sunday, January 31, 2010. The final performance will mark the end of her two-year residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace which began on February 20, 2008.

“What a fabulous two years this has been, and I thank AEG and Caesars Palace for the best partnership a showgirl could imagine. Who knows? These legs have had such a great run in the desert—it may be time to haul them to places with more humidity and fewer slot machines. But first I need to finish recording my album of the sexiest new love songs that only a showgirl could sing,” stated Midler.

“Bette is one of the most talented, hard working professionals in the business and we would have loved for her to stay longer, said John Meglen, co-CEO and President of AEG Live/Concerts West. “All of us at AEG Live thank Bette and the entire cast, crew and staff for a great two year run at The Colosseum.”

“Like every one of her performances, the approaching finale of Bette’s two-year engagement leaves us applauding for more,” said Gary Selesner, president of Caesars Palace. “Bette always will have a home at Caesars Palace.”

The Showgirl Must Go On will perform November 7 -15 and December 30 – January 31, 2010. The show is dark Monday, Thursday and occasional Fridays. Tickets for these final performances are on-sale now at Ticketmaster.com, keyword “Bette Midler”, by calling 1-877-7BETTEM (723-8836), or in person at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Box Office, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  1. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. This announcement makes me sad– but I suppose I should be grateful that Bette has shared her talents with all of us for the past 4 decades.
    Shelly

  3. I am very sad as well because now there’s no chance of me getting out there in time. But is she recording an album, or did I read that wrong?

  4. This makes me sad. But we all knew it would happen soon. I just can’t believe the showgirl concerts are over. I hope Bette still works regularly/semi-regularly. Vegas just won’t be the same without her. : s

  5. This is so sad!! I have saved money for a possible February run, so I could travel from England to see Bette. She is the only performer that I have not seen, that I must see. I now fear she will be the one that got away.
I now demand at this point a DVD. Celine has one, Elton has one, now Bette MUST release one!! It would sell very well here in England!!

  6. Today I was thinking about getting out to see her when I saw your post. I knew her finale had to be coming. I just got done booking my trip….I got tickets for her final show! AWESOME!!!!! They had them in every price group except the $45. Last time I saw her, I got to meat her. With any luck, she will have a party afterward! I am so f#$%ing excited!!!!!!!

  7. We all love you Bette, and wish you well in ALL your endeavors! I was lucky to see you from time to time, and really compare these times to the zany “Songs of the New Depression” tour you ran during the 70’s! Great HBO video and youtube exist of that so if you haven’t seen it or bought “Live at Last”, well what the F(*k you waiting for? Enjoy!

  8. Oooh….maybe my dream of seeing her perform in a small venue will come true, eh? :-P. Plus, a new album with new songs is on the way! This is great news!!!!!! Do you guys still believe she will ever stop? Come one, I don`t believe her anymore…LOL! Thank GOD, I think she will always be doing something. It might not be huge like Vegas, but I bet all the money in the world (the kind of dough I don`t have…)she might do something else…

  9. Whenever the end is announced, it makes sure that there is a run for the remaining tickets, boosting the prices. I expect every show from now on to be sold-out. But I don’t expect the show to close for good on Jan 31. Bette will have done about 180 shows by then, and I’m sure Cesar’s will anounce a generous sounding continuation (true to the amazing success, the Showgirl MUST go on: BEtte has agreed to do twenty more dates. Your FINAL chances to see Bette!) The dates will probably be in early spring, twenty of them, making sure the original 200 are fulfilled.
I’m also thrilled there is a new record with love songs, great idea and about time!
And the statement says she is looking forward to places with humidity and less slot machines; that does sound as if the showgirl war going on a trip (to Europe???)
The showgirl is gonna be around, to some maybe closer than ever!

  10. I like to hold on to what you say Prince Charming,it sounds logic and makes me less sad because i won’t have the opportunity to go to Vegas. My goal and hope is London!

  11. I love Ms. Midler with all my heart, and really wish I had a opportunity to come to Vegas to see the show. I think it is wonderful she is making a new CD of love songs, and look forward to hearing it. This is not the end of the line, and I just about bet there are not only more songs, but books, and other projects the Divine Mrs. M will do, and though I am saddened to see her show end, you must know I am optimistic about all the new projects she will begin. Change is good, and sometimes changes in life only means it is time to move forward to something else, and who knows what wonderful things are around the bend. I love you so much the one and only Divine Mrs. M. Love YA..becky (the twin)

  12. No…No…NO! Work schedule and finances have not permitted me to get out there yet and there is no way I can get there between now and January! Maybe she’ll bring the magic to philly?!?!? (Hope…hope) She’s been my idol since I was 8 years old! I would hate to miss her BIG show, but at least she’s “NOT RETIRING!” LOL I hope prince charming is right about additional shows.
