Bette Midler Reference On “American Idol”

Mister D: Didn’t see the show but Mister B did. He said about the same thing that is posted in this column from “Fans of RealityTV.com”…my take is that they are lookimg for someone that they can mold who will appeal demographically to a wider range of people…someone not threatening to either sex:

The next contestant to sing is this year’s Nikki McKibbin, Vanessa Olivarez. I say “this year’s Nikki McKibbin” because of Vanessa’s fire-engine-red hair and funky fashion sense, but there is one big difference between the two. Vanessa can actually sing. However, you may not know it if you just watched tonight, because her performance of “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” is a bit sub-par. It’s not horrible, mind you, but Vanessa has sung better in the past. Randy says, “You’re doing your thing.” Paula says, “It was a little pitchy, but it was a lot of fun.” Lamont says Vanessa was “good…very good,” and Simon says, “You’re really like Bette Midler. You’re probably a better entertainer than what we’re looking for on this show.” OK, I’m confused. Isn’t being a good entertainer part of what this is all about?
