Downtown New Canaan gets a case of ‘Stepford’ fever

New Canaan was buzzing with celebrities this week as “The Stepford Wives” filmed in front of Town Hall on Main Street. On Monday, Greenwich native Glenn Close was on hand along with Faith Hill and hubby/singer Tim McGraw, a brown bob-wigged Nicole Kidman and love interest Lenny Kravitz. On the set Tuesday were Hill, Kidman, Bette Midler and Greenwich resident and stylist Lori Jarry, who portrays a Stepford wife in the film.
The street has been turned into a Stepford haven with a slew of Barbie doll-looking extras lining the street and the signs in front of the Town Hall and shops changed to “Stepford,” “Stepford National Bank” and “Stepford Shop.” Seen in the crowd watching the shoot were News 12 anchor David Smith smoking a cigar, and an unexpected visit from Spider-Man trying unsuccessfully to disrupt the crowd.
The New Canaan police not only had everything under control, but went out of their way to welcome all of the onlookers.
