Bette Midler Does Touching Tribute to Mister Rogers

January 15, 2004 – Bette Midler’s new touring show called “Kiss my Brass” is getting rave reviews. Her well-known irreverence is prominent throughout the program, but there are also some quiet, reflective moments, the most touching of which is a tender musical tribute to America’s favorite neighbor, Mister Rogers. Joining him in a “virtual duet,” she sings a rendition of “I Like to Be Told” — along with full screen video taken right from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.

In her monologue before and after the song, she refers to Mister Rogers as representing truth, and to Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood as a safe place in our troubled world.

After her concert in Pittsburgh, she gave Joanne Rogers a warm welcome backstage and received an autographed copy of The World According to Mister Rogers.
