Events center now drawing bigger-name concerts, shows

EVERETT – A year ago, pretty much all you could hear at the Everett Events Center was crickets chirping.
The 4-month-old venue had yet to attract a single musical act, and wouldn’t until Lynyrd Skynyrd in January.
Fast-forward exactly one year, and its clear the times they are a changin’.
Diva Bette Midler plays Everett Tuesday, and even with tickets left to sell, arena officials say it will be the highest-grossing concert yet -not to mention the biggest stage production.
Midler is expected to outgross Rod Stewart’s April concert, which sold 7,454 tickets and brought in about $780,000. Midler will likely sell fewer tickets, but with ticket prices ranging from $42 to $152, she doesn’t have to sell as many to beat Mod Rod to the bank.
A little over a week after Midler, country singer-songwriter Dolly Parton will come to town.
Everett Events Center officials are “pleasantly surprised” with ticket sales for Parton, the arena’s first country music show.
“Her floor seats sold out the first day,” arena spokesman Eric Blankenship said.
There are only a few dozen tickets left for Parton’s concert.
That’s to follow a flurry of fall concerts, including The Cure, Green Day, Hall and Oates and The Scorpions.
Though he won’t say who is coming, Blankenship says there are a few concert announcements on the way this month.
