SYDNEY’S loss is Adelaide’s gain – entertainer Bette Midler has abandoned one New South Wales date in favour of coming to SA, The Advertiser can exclusively announce.

Midler – star of films such as Beaches and First Wives Club, and the voice behind songs like The Rose and Wind Beneath My Wings – announced an Australian tour earlier this year but it was restricted to the east coast. Local promoter Brian Gleeson and the Entertainment Centre went to work on securing a date for Adelaide.

“A lot of pressure was put on the promoters, Garry Van Egmond and Michael Chugg, both from the Entertainment Centre and myself, after we heard the tour was announced and Adelaide wasn’t included,” he said.

“We felt that the market here would take to Bette and obviously it’s one of the best live acts you’ll ever see, because it’s a theatrical tour. It’s not just up on stage singing.

“(The promoters) flew out to see us last Monday, and agreed to take a Sydney date away and give a date to Adelaide.”

Midler will perform at the Entertainment Centre on Tuesday, April 28. Tickets go on sale on Monday, February 28. Read The Advertiser interview with Midler in Saturday magazine on Saturday.
