- I got an email from BetteHead Wendy Poo saying she got a newsletter from The Ellen Degeneres Show saying that Bette would be on Ellen Nov 20 pr 21st. I called to confirm if this were true and it kind of is and isn’t – they are in negotiations to do the Ellen show. But when something is in writing like that from Ellen, my guess is that it will happen. Hopefully, Bette will do other shows to promote not only her Vegas run, but her CD “Jackpot.” Anyway, thank you Wendy for the heads up….Oh yeah, “Vote Obama!”
- Darrell Redmond from Bette On The Boards wrote and told me he was getting rid of The Staggering Harlettes site. Since it was originally mine, it comes back to me. Both of us feel that the page should go on though. It’s important to keep their history, too. However, neither of us have that much time to spend on it. Therefore I’ve decided to take it back and keep it up but I will be getting lots of help from Katrin. If others happen to get information or can help us, like they do with Bootleg Betty, it will be very much appreciated. The page will remain kind of stagnant, not completely, until after the holidays, but please check it out.
- Kirk Douglas was honoured by a host of stars who turned out to pay tribute to his humanitarian efforts.
Celebs attending the event at the California Science Centre – which also honoured the Shoah Foundation for its humanitarian efforts – included filmmaker Steven Spielberg, comic Billy Crystal and singer Bette Midler.
Kirk, 91 – who together with his wife has funded the construction of 400 playgrounds at LA schools over the last decade – was treated to comedy from Billy, music from Bette and a speech from Spielberg during the Foundation’s Ambassadors For Humanity benefit dinner.
“Kirk Douglas, in a way, has saved many lives — not just through his art, but through his humanitarian contributions to the planet,” the director said. “We’re here to show how closely attuned Kirk Douglas is as a representative of our work and our vision at the Shoah Foundation.”
Spielberg established the Shoah Foundation in 1994 to collect and preserve stories from Holocaust survivors.
Was there any footage of the Douglas event?
omg, I love that picture
Hey Guys
Hopefully my message will come through as I’ve been having technological difficulties here at Bootleg Betty and other sites.
I know The Staggering Harlettes website will be in good hands with you Don, although I’m sorry to hear Darrell won’t be continuing on with it. We’d all love to help you if we may.
Now that Rhae Ann Theriault is available on MySpace and has befriended many of us, and Carol Hatchett has been a friend of mine for a while now, and I really should get back in touch with Melanie Taylor sometime soon again. It would be great to celebrate the wonderful Harlettes as they add so much to Bette’s shows.
Perhaps we could feature the individual Harlette’s solo projects on their site, there’s Carol’s “Live At The Mint” and Melanie’s “This Christmas”, and a few more I’m sure.
I’m going to be writing an article on the Harlettes, and especially their solo music for my magazine, and I hope Rhae will be available for an online interview.
Rhae actually told me she was toying around with the idea of working on a solo project and she said that my enthusiasm inspired her. 😉
Now, do I look like the kind of guy who goes around inspiring people? 😉
Cheers, Michael
Doesn`t she ever stop?:-)LOL!
I don’t know if this means anything, but the Ellen thing was announced on the “official” Bette Midler MySpace page a few days ago.
Also, I KNOW Kamilah would love to be featured on the Harlettes page. And I’m sure you can get something from Kyra and Jords too.
I know about the MySpace…I was just told it had not been confirmed as a sure Bette yet. My feeling is if they are putting it out there it’s gonna happen.
Yeah. About Kamilah, Kyra, Jordan….plus we’re gonna add Shayna and the a few things on the dancers. They’ll be the first things we work on….
Basically what I need from the Harlettes first is their official bios….
Love, D
