BURBANK, Calif., April 8 /PRNewswire/ — “Outrageous Fortune,” a contemporary action-comedy starring Shelley Long and Bette Midler, will begin principal photography in New York on April 14, it was announced today by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Richard Frank. The Interscope production is being directed by Arthur Hiller and produced by Ted Field and Robert W. Cort for Touchstone Films.

“Outrageous Fortune” is the fourth motion picture from Interscope Communications Inc. The company’s three other productions were “Revenge of the Nerds,” “Turk 182” and the currently filming “Critical Condition” starring Richard Pryor.

The female “buddy comedy,” from a screenplay by Leslie Dixon, is the story of a pair of rivals who become unlikely friends during a rowdy cross-country journey to find the man who two-timed both of them.

Midler, the talented actress, singer and comedienne who won an Academy Award nomination for her performance in “The Rose,” recently won acclaim for her performance in the Paul Mazursky film “Down and Out in Beverly Hills.” She will next be seen opposite Danny DeVito and Judge Reinhold in the Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker comedy, “Ruthless People,” which will be released by Touchstone Films on June 27.

Long is the Emmy Award-winning star of the popular television series “Cheers.” Her motion picture credits include “The Money Pit,” “Irreconcilable Differences,” “Caveman,” “Losin’ It” and “Night Shift.”

Director Arthur Hiller won an Academy Award nomination as best director in 1971 for “Love Story.” His other credits include “Silver Streak,” “The Hospital,” “The In-Laws,” “The Out-of-Towners” and “The Man in the Glass Booth.”

“Outrageous Fortune,” to be filmed in New York City, New Mexico and Los Angeles, is being co-produced by Peter V. Herald, Martin Michaelson and Scott Kroopf. A Touchstone Films presentation in association with Silver Screen Partners II, “Outrageous Fortune” will be distributed by Buena Vista.
