B E V E R LY HILLS, Ca l i f. ( U P I ) – “The Rose,” a me l ancholy ballad f r om the movie of the same name, was named Song of the Year by the n a t i o n al M u s ic P u b l i s h e r ‘s As soc i a t ion.

W r i t t e n b y A m a n d a McBroom, the song Bette Mi d l er sang in the movie also won honors as Movie Song of the Year at c e r emoni es Tuesd ay n i g ht at t he Beve r ly
H i l t on Hotel.

“Since songs are the only business of our members and the 1,600 mus ic publ i shing f i r ms they direct,” association president Leonard Feist told the audience of songwriters, publishers, singers and record executives, “these awards are widely recognized as the professional approval of an elite group.

“In the song world, these are the peers who count .”
