Book Of Shadows: “Come Little Children” (words by Bette Midler written for the movie Hocus Pocus) Sung by someone else and not from the movie. Its a fuller version than the movie and is set to wiccan/pagan images.
Earlier this year I was trying to find who wrote the poem (lyrics), I asked the local librarian and they looked it up to see that Bette Midler wrote the song or poem.
Come Little Children
by Bette Midler
I’ll Take Thee Away, Into A Land
Of Enchantment
Come Little Children
The Time’s Come To Play
Here In My Garden
Of Magic
Follow Sweet Children
I’ll Show Thee The Way
Through All The Pain And
The Sorrows
Weep Not Poor Children
For Life Is This Way
Murdering Beauty And
Passions
Hush Now Dear Children
It Must Be This Way
Too Weary Of Life And
Deceptions
Rest Now My Children
For Soon We’ll Away
into The Calm And
The Quiet
Come Little Children
I’ll Take Thee Away, Into A Land
Of Enchantment
Come Little Children
The Time’s Come To Play
Here In My Garden
Of Shadows
As far as I know, the song was not written by Bette Midler. It is based on a much older poem which some people think was written by Edgar Allan Poe (but probably wasn’t). Anyway, it existed before the movie and is much longer in original.
Thanks for the feedback Jan….looks like I need to do some research
I’ve been trying to dig up this info myself since reading this post. Some things I’m finding attribute the poem to John Debney, but Debney was the film’s composer. I am also finding Brock Walsh’s name attached to these lyrics. Nowhere am I finding that it was a full length poem originally though. But I may just be looking in the wrong places.
Well you’ve gotten farther than me….I won’t be able to start until sometime tomorrow….
