Bob Seger is adding another Hall of Fame credit to his career résumé.
Seger will be one of six inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame at a ceremony on June 14 in New York City. It follows his 2004 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Seger’s nomination was revealed in October, and at the time he noted that, “It’s very nice to be nominated, and I’m very grateful for that.” He added that “I really work hard on (songwriting). I like to think that … I leave a little blood on the page and work really hard on my lyrics, chord changes and everything, structures. So it’s pretty heartening to get that nod.”
The induction announcement on Tuesday (Feb. 21) praises Seger as “universally acknowledged by fans and musicians as one of the defining voices of American music.” It also noted that in addition to his own sales of 51 million records worldwide his songs have been recorded by Metallica, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride, Cher Rod Stewart, Bette Midler, Tina Turner and Kid Rock.
Joining Seger in the Songwriters class of 2012 will be Gordon Lightfoot, Don Schlitz, Meat Loaf collaborator Jim Steinman and the team of Harvey Schmidt & Tom Jones.
Tickets for the June ceremony begin at $1,000 and are available by calling 212-573-6933. More information is available at www.songwritershalloffame.org.

I notice that Bette put up the 4/14/12 date on her website as the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. No explanation as to why. I wonder if she’s a presenter, as she did last year for Darlene Love? Tom Dowd is being inducted, who worked with Bette on some of her songs; but then one of Bette’s heroines, Laura Nyro is also being inducted. I was hoping Bette was going to be inducted, but not this year……. (any clue on her participation?). Kudos to Bob Seger. It seems like it really does take a lifetime to get this kind of recognition.
I don’t know if she’s participating or not……I’ve known her to go when she didn’t participate at all….I’ll ask and see if i can get an answer…..
