From Bette Midler: A few years ago I launched my Stages for Success Initiative because I believe that every kid deserves a chance to sing out! We are working with the best theater designers and construction companies to modernize public school auditoriums, using my own funds to bring much needed improvements to outdated and dysfunctional spaces.
Currently we are hard at work at a great public school in Far Rockaway, Queens, a community that was hard hit by Super Storm Sandy. The incomparable Rockwell Group is leading the design team and significant improvements have been planned for the auditorium, including a new sound system, stage and house lighting, and a much-needed facelift. The project will be a tremendous resource for students and the surrounding community but we need your help to complete the makeover in time for the new 2014 school year. I will be matching every penny raised!
I’ve seen young lives transformed when they are given the opportunity for creative expression in a stimulating environment, and the benefits are profound: teamwork and sense of community, improved academic achievement and discipline, reading and language skills, confidence and self-esteem. Look what it’s done for me!
