Bette Midler On The Rose:

Bette Midler On The Rose: “Originally it was a fictionalized biography of Janis Joplin and I wasn’t interested. I didn’t think I could impersonate Janis, and I didn’t think there was anybody else around who could. Still, I liked the idea of singing rock n’ roll and the idea of the range of emotions the character was allowed to play. They kept redrafting the script and it got less and less Janis and I thought it got better. My manager at the time said I should do it.” (The Free Lance-Star, Sep 22, 1979)
