Bette is a big fan of the U.K (or the Yuk as she likes to call it). A good friend of mine is vicar at the Actor’s Church just off the piazza in Covent Garden, London. A couple of years ago he was closing up the church at 6.30pm after a very busy Saturday, when a London Tour Guide (a proper, official, trained one) rushed in and asked if the church could stay open for an extra 10 minutes as he had a visitor who wanted to see it. My friend wasn’t particularly impressed (end of a hot summer Saturday, thinking of a cool shower and a gin and tonic) but said yes, of course, no problem, I’ll have to close the doors so just knock when they’re here….
Knock on the door 15 minutes later, opens the door to…. Bette! The visit was over an hour, joyful and interesting. Bette was knowledgeable, interested and charming (obvs) and left with profuse thanks and a whacking donation in the box…what a beaut!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share that story and it was a great.
