Mister D: Good Morning Everybody. Hope everyone had a divine weekend and that Manic Monday turns out to be somewhat more like Mellow Monday. But that’s just dreaming I suppose!

Polls

Just writing to say that I have new polls up (supplied by Cris from Brazil – and thank you my dear – I only helped just a little). I think some of us old-timers might have to do a little research on some of them before we make any choices, but that’s how you stay young ya know?

The top vote getters for last centuries (long time between updated…just a joke) polls were so predictable that they are almost not worth printing. You couldn’t envision Bette in any on the Oscar nominated movies of the last year, except for maybe “Ms Henderson Presents.” If Bette did another “Songbook” it should be Judy Garland’s! (yawn) or close runner up: enough with the songbooks already. If I had to choose I’d probably go for something more pop like Dusty Springfield (Lord, please don’t let Madonna do her life story as I have heard thru the grapevine…a travesty, just a travesty!) or Laura Nyro. Your favorite performance of Bette’s in 2006 was “Fever” on Conan’s show. I liked the whole show..great chemistry. But you all think she has more chemistry with David Letterman whom I love, too. I just saw flashes of the old Bette with Conan…she seemed much more relaxed.

Music

I’ve changed the music out in both the BLB jukebox and the BLB records sections – hope you enjoy. Sorry for the delay in all of this, but one must try to have a life. Speaking of Life: I auditioned last week for the play, Love, Valour, and Compassion! It was the very first audition I’ve been to for theatre and I tried out for the part of Buzz. Of course, I’ve had no experience, so I had to list on the application that I was once a butterfly in first grade and played a straight man for the first 25 years of my life. That was the best I could come up with! I had no resume or headshots. My reading sucked, but then they asked me to read for the part of Perry, then Arthur. I felt very much at ease with those characters and the reading went quite well. But I’m sure I didn’t get the part. Never heard back from the director. But I ended up talking with the director’s “helpers” and had a blast. They were quite encouraging, so I’m going to pursue this a little more. Maybe take a few workshops and hit as many auditions as possible. It was just too much fun. I wasn’t nervous, just BAD!!! LOL

(I’d really like to give special thanks to 2 BLB readers who are also theatre directors, Chris and Frank. They wrote and gave me extremely good advice and encouragement. Without them I probably wouldn’t have had the nerve to audition nor would I have done as well as I did. And to both of you fellows, I say, I’m not giving up…I’m just going to try again. I had a great time!)

Sara van Bussel’s Bootleg Betty Widget

Sara: It’s a small app that you can load on Mac OS X dashboard that can do stuff. I made one that reads the RSS feed from BootlegBetty. It checks the feed (to see if that conceited bastard, Mister D, has posted anything new!) every 15 minutes, but only when dashboard is on and it blocks everything else on your screen, so typically this isn’t often.

Anyway, Sara did a Divine job and submitted it to Apple and they accepted it! You can view it and download it if you CLICK HERE

Fever Remixes

Don’t forget you can download the “Fever” remixes at iTunes That’s 3 different mixes for about 2.97. Not a bad deal.

Bette Midler Fan Mail

I don’t know why I never thought to just come right out and ask Ms. M’s assistant if there was a place for people to send fan mail, so I did the other day, and was surprised as all get out to find there was. I don’t really know how involved Ms. Midler is with this kind of stuff, but this is what we have to work with now.

Let me stress that this IS NOT a fan club. It’s just a place for you to write her and maybe get a pic or something.

Send requests to:

Miss M Productions

Tell them Mister D sent you! 🙂

Going Off-Line

I think that’s about it kids. Except for any major news posts I’m out of here for awhile. Which means going off-line except for work. If you email me it may be quite a while before you hear from me. Much love and kisses to you all. Will see you soon.

Impeach The President

Finally, a full out protest CD is coming out via Neil Young

Welcome To The 60’s!

Neil Young sets his sights on Bush
He is country rock’s biggest icon, and he is angry.
Recorded in secret, his forthcoming album savages the war in Iraq.
One track says it all: ‘Impeach the President’
By Andrew Buncombe
Published: 17 April 2006

It started as a rumour – gossip shared by fans on internet chat sites. Could it true, they asked? Could Neil Young, a cultural lodestone for a generation of country rock fans, really be turning his attention to President George Bush and the war in Iraq? Now Young himself has confirmed it. Not only has he recorded an entire album about the conflict, but in one of the songs he spells out who he thinks is to blame for the ongoing chaos and violence and what the consequences for that person should be. That track is called “Impeach the President”.

“I just finished a new record – a power trio with trumpet and 100 voices,” the 60-year-old says in a ticker-tape message posted at the bottom of his official website. “Metal folk protest? It’s called Living with the War.”

Further details about the album came from Jonathan Demme, the film maker who produced the recently released documentary Heart of Gold about the singer-songwriter. “Neil just finished writing and recording – with no warning – a new album called Living With War,” he told the music magazine Harp by e-mail. “It all happened in three days … It is a brilliant electric assault, accompanied by a 100-voice choir, on Bush and the war in Iraq … Truly mind blowing. Will be in stores soon.”
