Since the Persian Gulf War began 36 days ago, Styx’sShow Me The Way” and Bette Midler‘s “From a Distance” have become unofficial anthems for people with family and friends serving in the armed forces .

In each song, the singer asks for strength and courage to make it through life’s difficult times.

Bob Spence, program director for Aurora-based Y-108 FM, said the station has increased the rotation of these songs on its play lists, .
“Show Me The Way” is a topfive song nationwide and gets played every four hours, Spence said.

“From a Distance,” though no longer a top 10 hit, is aired every 24 to 36 hours.

“These two songs, plus any song that has a deep meaning seems to be requested,” Spence. said. “We’ve been trying to keep our finger on the pulse the of the community.”
