STATE PARKS COMMISSIONER Bernadette Castro positively gushed when she called to tell us that the Friends of Long Island State Parks had scheduled its latest dinner for April 16 and would be presenting its Robert Moses Master Builder Award to entertainer Bette Midler, who has a committee that has been working to clean up New York City parks. Castro was so excited that she is forming a business committee to try to sell tickets to the event (which raises money for worthy L.I. state parks projects that didn’t make it into the state budget), and asks that anyone who wants to serve call her personal office line in Albany, 518-474-0463. Of course, Midler is coming at a price: her group, the New York Restoration Project, gets to split the take.
