For the first time, the Pepsi Arena canceled a concert because of weight issues.

Bette Midler was supposed to perform Wednesday night, but her production gear weighed in at $113,000 pounds. The Pepsi Arena’s general manager said the rule of thumb is to seek an engineer’s approval for any show with gear weighing more than 90,000 pounds.

Even though the arena got the green light back in January, Mother Nature stepped in at the last minute with snow and ice adding more weight on top of the roof.

GM Bob Belcher said, “We thought of every possible thing we could think of to try and move that snow off the building. It was a long and tedious process yesterday, and we feel bad we can’t put the show on.”

Esther Washburn of Buskirk said, “I am very disappointed. I always wanted to see her in person.”

The concert is not going to be rescheduled, but any one of the 9,000 ticket-holders can get a refund.
