Stars Campaign to Clean Up New York

CHER, WHOOPI GOLDBERG, JOAN RIVERS, BETTE MIDLER and Naomi Campbell are backing a campaign to help the homeless in New York.
The stars have autographed brooms which will be auctioned for homeless charities at June’s (08) annual SoHo Stroll.
The event, founded by Manhattan philanthropist Henry Buhl, will include a walk through downtown New York, as well as a sale of brooms signed by more than 30 celebrities.
I think this is a fantastic thing for Bette, Whoopi, Naomi, Cher, Joan and the other celebrities involved to be doing, and it is certainly for a very worthy and heartwarming cause.
However, I am curious…why brooms?

I’m guessing that the brooms symbolize sweeping up the street…..the cleaning of New York…IMO

In that case, I’d love to have the broom Bette rode on in “Hocus Pocus”, especially if it actually flew! Now that would ROCK! 😉
