DALLAS, April 5 /PRNewswire/ — In recognition of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, BoltBus has announced today that 40 cents from each ticket sold for travel between April 19 ”“ 25 during “Earth Week” will be donated in support of the environmental non-profit New York Restoration Project (NYRP). These limited-time tickets ”“ dubbed “Green Fares” ”“ reflect the company’s commitment to providing passengers with an environmentally friendly way to travel this Earth Day and all year long.
“Consumers are looking for opportunities to decrease their environmental footprint,” said David Hall, general manager, BoltBus. “By offering Green Fares and partnering with the New York Restoration Project, BoltBus hopes to underscore our dedication to the environment, as well as highlight how easy it is to make greener lifestyle choices, such as taking the bus or volunteering to clean-up your neighborhood park.”
The mission of NYRP is to ensure that every New York City resident, family and neighborhood has access to open, green spaces. To accomplish this goal, their team of staff, AmeriCorps members and volunteers restore, revitalize and develop under-resourced parks and community gardens throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Founded by entertainer Bette Midler, NYRP will celebrate “Earth Week” by planting more than 20,000 trees as part of MillionTreesNYC, an initiative to plant and care for one million new trees across New York City by 2017, and host NYC Grows, an outdoor, family-friendly gardening festival on Sunday, April 25 in Manhattan’s Union Square.
“New York Restoration Project applauds BoltBus for supporting our efforts to clean and green New York City parks and community gardens, and plant trees in neighborhoods lacking adequate tree cover,” said Darin Johnson, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Marketing. “As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, NYRP is pleased to join BoltBus in encouraging people to reduce their carbon footprint by carpooling or taking advantage of bus transportation.”
Both BoltBus and NYRP enable people to take an active role in improving their environmental impact. This partnership is meant to encourage people to get involved this Earth Day and to consider taking the bus instead of driving alone to various Earth Day events up and down the East Coast. BoltBus offers travelers an easy way to decrease their environmental impact when traveling to their favorite destination in Boston, New York, Philadelphia or Washington, D.C., by bus.
“Providing a more earth friendly mode of transportation is an inherent part of the BoltBus brand,” said Hall. “To thank our loyal passengers, we are pleased to have an opportunity to extend support to the New York Restoration Project ”“ an organization that has been invaluable in educating, protecting and restoring New York’s open spaces.”
BoltBus coaches utilize the latest technology to ensure they have the lowest level of emissions in the industry. Since its launch in 2008, nearly 3 million passengers have enjoyed low fares starting at $1, extra leg-room, free Wi-Fi and no baggage fees, in addition to the environmental benefits of BoltBus, such as:

BoltBus carbon emissions are only 56 grams per passenger, compared to 371 grams for a single-passenger car
Taking the bus instead of flying cuts emissions by 55 to 75 percent, depending on distance
A couple boarding a motor coach will cut their carbon nearly in half compared with driving even a hybrid car
