10 Celebs You Won’t Believe Never Won an Oscar

The Academy Awards are on Sunday and we get to see our favorite stars walk the red carpet, suffer through super awkward interviews, then sit patiently for their name to be called. The buzz is all about The King’s Speech this year, but personally I’m rooting for The Social Network. Colin Firth and Jesse Eisenberg are nominated for the Leading Actor trophy respectively, but the competition is pretty stiff with James Franco and Javier Bardem in the category, as well.
I’ll be cheering for Jesse because I love to see a young guy bring home the gold. A victory for Jesse would likely piss off a lot people, not to mention many of Hollywood’s favorite stars who have never won an Oscar. It’s surprising how many haven’t! Let’s take a look at the top 10 actors and actresses in Hollywood who have never come in first:
Cary Grant. Frankly my dear, this is a surprise. He was nominated twice, once for the None but the Lonely Heart and Penny Serenade, but never won.
Bette Midler. She’s won plenty of Golden Globes and was nominated for Best Actress for The Rose and For the Boys, but no wins.
Peter O’Toole. He was nominated eight times, the poor guy, including a nomination in 2006 for his role in Venice, but lost to Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland.
Glenn Close. She’s gotten five nominations, all in the 1980s, but no statues.
Tom Cruise. Can you believe he didn’t win for Fourth of July nor Jerry Maguire? Robbed.
Michelle Pfeiffer. Nominated for Best Actress in Love Field and The Fabulous Baker Boys and Supporting Actress in Dangerous Liaisons, but she’s got nothing to show for it. And no nomination for Grease 2? Blasphemy.
Leonardo DiCaprio. Is he too pretty to win? Nominated for Best Actor in Blood Diamond and The Aviator, and Supporting in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, he’s been shunned by the Academy. Every movie he’s in is fantastic. He’s got to be awarded the Oscar soon enough.
Meg Ryan. She’s never even been nominated for an Oscar. I just feel like she’s such a classic actress that she would’ve surely won something by now. Award-wise, her biggest nods were Golden Globe nominations for her roles in Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, and When Harry Met Sally.
Christian Bale. He’s nominated this year for his Supporting role in The Fighter, but so far he’s empty-handed. I’m kind of surprised by this considering his amazing performances in The Machinist, American Psycho, and of course, the Batman movies.
Johnny Depp. Shocker, right? Nominated for three Oscars for Pirates of the Caribbean, Sweeney Todd, and Finding Neverland but obviously hasn’t won. If he keeps making movies like The Tourist, then he’s in trouble. Pick it up, John. You deserve a trophy.
Anyone I left off?
That’s a good one!
Well Bette is in good company,
Anyway How they make their choices its incomparable , Sometimes its ok but most off the time I think Oscars are about the Box office, sorry.
I think with the Oscars it has more to do with politics and talent….you have to play the suck up game….
