Critical reviews of Beaches really steamed Bette Midler‘s bean – and now she’s afraid her latest movie, Stella, may also get tagged a weepie women’s picture. “Beaches touched a huge chord in women, but it was reduced to tear-jerker status by 50-year-old male reviewers who feel they’ve been manipulated when they start to cry,” she says.
Midler mourns the passing of the old days when “the big women stars were bigger than the men stars. Things really have come to a pretty pass.
That’s because, I think, eunuchs have inherited the studios.”
Stella, by the way, opens in town tomorrow.
