Jenifer Lewis, who was last seen on Broadway in Hairspray, will team up with Tony-winning Hairspray composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman – who also create the original music on NBC’s “Smash” – at 54 Below beginning July 24.

The weeklong engagement will continue through July 28. Performances will be held July 24-28 at 8 PM with 11 PM shows July 27-28. Shaiman will join Lewis on stage at the piano.

According to 54 Below, “Jenifer Lewis, one of Bette Midler‘s most infamous Harlettes, is a force of nature whose voice is as distinctive as her take no prisoners sense of humor. And why July, you may ask? Why, it’s National Jackie Washington month, of course! And if you don’t understand that reference, look it up on Netflix.”

Lewis, who played the role of Motormouth Maybelle in Broadway’s Hairspray, has also been seen in Rock ‘n Roll! The First 5,000 Years; Comin’ Uptown; and Eubie! Her film and television credits include “Jackie’s Back,” “Strong Medicine,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” “Beaches,” “Cars” and “The Princess and the Frog.” Visit her page at the Playbill Vault.

54 Below is located at 254 West 54th Street. There will be a $30-40 cover plus a $25 food and beverage minimum. For more information and tickets, visit 54Below.com.
