Hasty Pudding Picks Miss Midler

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) ~ Singer Bette Midler will be feted Feb. 17 by Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding theatrical club as its woman of the year.
The award will be presented following a parade to Harvard Square.
It is given to outstanding women of the theatre who show “great artistic skill and feminine qualities.”
Miss Midler is the club’s 26th annual woman of the year. Other winners have been Valerie Harper. Faye Dunaway, Liza Minnelli, Carol Channing, Shirley MacLaine, Carol Burnett and Katharine Hepburn.
Besides the parade and award, the club, oldest such organization in the country, will give a preview of its new stage show ~ an original musical comedy. It’s the 128th production of the club.
