Singer Bette Midler may have retired her famous mermaid character Delores Delago last year, but the Divine Miss M has definitely not faltered in her ability to provide a high-energy, always entertaining show.

Midler performed a nearly two-hour concert last week at Chicago’s United Center and captured the audience’s attention from the moment she took the stage.

Currently on her Divine Intervention tour, the singer filled her show with classic Midler ribald humor, catchy stories, interesting song selections and overall fun segments.

Midler’s show opened with the tune “Divine Intervention” and she proceeded to entertain fans with a variety of favorites from the sultry “Do You Want to Dance” to “Tell Him,” from her latest studio album “It’s The Girls.”

She offered a slower version of the hit “Waterfalls” by TLC, also from “It’s The Girls,” an album paying homage to girl groups throughout history.

In between her musical performances, Midler had the audience laughing as she launched into a comical tirade about social media and feeling like a “cyber slacker” and also showed various other humorous stills and backdrops. She asked fans if they remembered when they didn’t want to be “followed” and commented “When Sally Field said ‘You like me, you really like me,’ she was actually inventing Facebook.”

After asking “Don’t I look fabulous? – and she did as she donned a short pink dress and later a sequined gown – Midler shouted to fans “Congratulations Chicago on your fantastic win.” After all, she was in the home of the Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks.

Among songs on the divine diva’s playlist were the Rolling Stones‘ “Beast of Burden, “The Rose,” “I Think It’s Going To Rain Today,” and the heartfelt “From A Distance.” She also offered a snappy rendition of “Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy” and ended the show with Chicago group the Chi-Lites‘ hit “Have You Seen Her,” which she said was her husband’s favorite song.

Midler plays Madison Square Garden at the end of this week and then heads overseas. For more information on the singer and her tour, visit bettemidler.com.
