Woody Allen’s upcoming untitled fall project, the follow-up to his upcoming “Mighty Aphrodite,” will be his first foray into the musical genre. Sources said the project will be a collaboration with Dick Hyman, a conductor, arranger, composer and performer. The musical will star Tim Roth, Julia Roberts, Judy Davis, Alan Alda, Ed Norton, Bette Midler, Drew Barrymore and Billy Crudup.
Songs and music scores have figured importantly in Allen’s works, most notably in “Radio Days” and “Manhattan.” Hyman has worked on a number of Allen’s films, including “Broadway Danny Rose;” “Zelig” and “Stardust Memories.”
Allen, a clarinetist, has been performing regularly at New York’s Michael’s Pub. His “Mighty Aphrodite” is expected to be released to theaters in late October.
