I was flung into the arms of a fellow in the front row. Well, I guess he didn’t know what to do. So he put me on the floor and I lay on my back and thought to myself, ‘What shall I do? Shall I have them cart me away and keep my eyes closed, or shall I get up and get back on the stage in this mermaid drag? It was awful. I couldn’t move. I insisted that the customers give me a boost back on to the stage. They lifted me up by the backside. And the audience roared. They thought it was part of the act. The schmucks!” (1980)
