Bette Midler Stands By Her Real Housewive’s Request

Bette Midler is sharing the feedback she got to her request to join the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast.

While talking with E! News, when Midler was asked about whether she had plans to make a cameo on her The Fabulous Four co-star Sheryl Lee Ralph’s hit sitcom, Abbott Elementary, she noted that she “always hints” on Twitter whether she wants a role — including her prior call out to the Bravo network.

“[I tweeted], ‘Is it too late for me to be on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?’ I did tweet that and I did get some really strange feedback,” she said, referring to her March post. (The official Bravo account responded at the time: “Talk about a glorious crossover.”)

When asked if she would actually be on RHOBH, Midler admitted that it’d be “a little bit more than a problem” than making the Abbott Elementary cameo possible. “I’m not exactly a [housewife]. I mean, I am more of a housewife than they are. But I don’t know… why not? Who cares after all this time?”

In THR‘s cover story chat with Andy Cohen, the Watch What Happens Live host and Real Housewives producer was asked if now that big celebrities like Midler are asking to join the franchise, he’d consider adding any already known names.

“Tori Spelling has made a lot of noise about wanting to be on the show. She’d definitely bring great drama, but we’ve never really had a serious conversation about her for some reason,” responded Cohen. “I have mixed feelings about having stars on the show. When Lisa Rinna was trying out for season one of Beverly Hills, I was against the idea. Like, she’s already a celebrity! But then she came, and it made perfect sense.”

Since then, it has been announced that actress Jennifer Tilly will join the cast as a “friend” for the upcoming 14th season.

In the E! News conversation, Midler also gave an update on Hocus Pocus 3, which is in the works after the success of last year’s sequel. “When I heard about it, they told me they were going to have a script written on it, so they sort of dangled [the sequel] in front of our eyes,” she said. “Just sort of ‘We’re working on it, we’re working on it.’ But we haven’t seen anything yet.”

She assured that she and her Hocus Pocus co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy “would love to. We love those characters, we love the situation [of how the story has continued with the sequel], we love everything about it.”

Speaking of sequels, she named another project she would love to revisit: First Wives Club. Of the 1996 classic film she co-starred in with Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn, she said, “I love both those girls. I think they’re tremendous.”

  1. Hello Don,

Two questions for you, if you don’t mind.

What happened to your Hammond Indiana article/review of Bette’s show there? I went to reread it and it’s gone.

Also, have you seen a copy of the new book on Bette by Kevin Winkler? I was wondering what you think of the book. Are there photos included or just text? I looked for a copy at my local B&N and they didn’t have one. Wondering about it before I decide to order it.

    Hope you are well.

    Best,

    Ron
