Former Harlette, Jocelyn Brown, To Perform At Clifton Colleges 150th Anniversary

SOUL sensation Jocelyn Brown is the first of four celebrity headliners to perform at Clifton College‘s 150th anniversary celebrations this summer.

The soul diva will sing a mix of her new R&B songs and top ten hits including Always There and Somebody Else’s Guy on Friday, July 6.

The event, titled Â “Concert on the Close: Around the World in 150 Minutes” , is expected to attract a crowd of 20,000 music fans.

Proceeds from the concert will go to support the Prince’s Trust, Life for a Cure and the Quartet Community Foundation.

Jocelyn started singing as a young child, growing up in a musical and religious family in Kingston, US.

With a background deeply rooted in gospel, she went on to lead vocals behind several disco classics including Keep on Jumping.

It wasn’t long before her voice was sought by a number of artists including Mick Jagger, Bette Midler, Diana Ross and John Lennon. Many will know her soaring vocal, sampled on the 90s hit I’ve Got the Power by Snap.

As a special one-off, Jocelyn will be singing He’s got the whole world in his hand together with the Bristol Ensemble, the city’s 45-piece professional chamber orchestra, and Clifton music scholars, including violin prodigy and Young Musician of the Year contender Julia Hwang.

The international music concert will be followed by a sound, light and live performance extravaganza featuring the multi-award winning actor Simon Russell-Beale.

Mr Russell-Beale gave his first theatre performance playing Desdemona in Othello at Clifton’s Redgrave Theatre at the age of 14 and will be entertaining crowds as part of a light and sound spectacular written by Michael Hirst, writer and producer of Elizabeth and The Tudors, and directed by Chris Hunt, producer of the BeyoncÃ© tour. The show will also feature film footage of former Clifton student John Cleese, being screened for the first time at the event.

Clifton College head Mark Moore said: “Around the World in 150 minutes is a dynamic fusion of popular and classical music and will be a huge event not only for Clifton, but for Bristol and the South West.

“Celebrating Clifton’s achievements over its 150-year history, The Concert on the Close is set to be an incredible evening bringing together international music stars and the College’s own superb musicians, concluding at dusk with a unique, dramatic, sound and light experience featuring a sophisticated 3D mapping light show projected onto the College’s iconic Victorian Gothic buildings.”
