Now that it is October, television channels are gearing up to air Halloween staples such as “Hocus Pocus.”

5. It Had The Best Musical Sequence Ever
One of the best parts of “Hocus Pocus” is when Winnifred, Sarah and Mary get up on stage and enchant the adults of Salem so that they freely suck the lives out of all the little children in the town. After all, watching Midler belt out “I put a spell on you and now you’re mine” with such sheer enthusiasm will never get old, even if you’ve seen the movie countless times.
4. Hocus Pocus Had Relatable Characters
The four main characters are relatable for audience members of any age.
Every sibling has felt responsible for looking after their younger brother or sister. Plenty of people can empathize with Max‘s frustration with not being able to “fit in” in a new town.
The fact that pretty much everyone can relate with the characters is part of the reason why the movie is still very popular today.
3. The Witches Were Definitely Creepy
Although the Sanderson sisters were mainly played for laughs, “Hocus Pocus” made sure to show off their sinister side too.
For example, take Sarah singing “come little children, I’ll take thee away into a land of enchantment.”
The haunting music combined with the choreography performed by Sarah Jessica Parker made for a memorable scene that showed both Max and the audience just how deadly the witches could be.
2. Binx’s Death Scene Is Heartbreaking
Binx sacrificing his life to save Max, Dani and Allison is probably one of the most heartbreaking moments in the film.
To further bring tears to everyone’s eyes, his ghost kisses Dani’s cheek and says “he’ll always be with her” before his little sister Emily appears in the cemetery.
There’s a sense of coming full circle as Max and Dani watch Binx and his sister walk through the gates into the sunlight. While “Hocus Pocus” has its cheesy moments, the ending will definitely tug at your heartstrings.
1. The Movie Is Hilarious
Finally, another reason why “Hocus Pocus” is so popular is due to the fact that it is absolutely hilarious.
Whether it is Sarah shouting “amok, amok, amok” in the middle of the street or Max summoning “the burning rain of death” in order to give Allison and Dani time to escape the Sanderson house, the movie will keep you in stitches every time you re-watch it.
