A SAFE BETTE: The news that Bette Midler has been signed to star in “Two on the Seesaw,” a film based on the Broadway musical “Seesaw,” came as a bit of a surprise to composer Cy Coleman.
Coleman, who most recently composed the music for I Love My Wife,” did the music for “Seesaw” which will be heard again in the movie. It was Coleman’s hope to star Midler in the Broadway show, but the singer declined Coleman’s invitation.
This time it was director Michael Bennett who persuaded Midler to take on the film project. Bets are that Bette will be a lady to watch.
