Showgirl is very much a ladies club, and so were the sets of Bette Midler’s upcoming films.
-First up: the Helen Hunt-directed Then She Found Me, opening April 25. Midler co-stars as a “crazy mother” who put Hunt’s character up for adoption. Having seen an early cut of the film, Midler raves, “That girl’s got something; Helen did such a good job.”
-Then Oct. 10 comes Diane English’s remake of 1939’s The Women, with not one male in the cast. Instead, there’s Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Candice Bergen, Debra Messing, Carrie Fisher, Jada Pinkett Smith and Eva Mendes. Midler appears as a chain-smoking agent who gossips with Ryan, whom she “just adored.”
