‘Drop Dead Diva‘ working on Bette Midler for Season 3

“Drop Dead Diva” isn’t having any problems booking guest stars lately. They’ve had Rosie O’Donnell, Liza Minnelli, Paula Abdul, Vivica A. Fox, and, cough, Jake Pavelka. The list goes on and on.

There is one celebrity that the show hasn’t been able to cast yet, but not without trying: Actress, singer, and current Las Vegas headliner, Bette Midler.

“She is who we want next,” creator Josh Berman tells Zap2it. “We got thisclose this season, but it didn’t work, because of her Las Vegas schedule. So, we’re all about Bette Midler in Season 3.”

While booking Midler has been a challenge, Berman tells us that things have changed since Season 1 when it comes to booking guest stars.

“I think the message on our show, the fun point of view, that beauty comes from within, has really resonated with a lot of the stars out there,” he says. “And now we are getting our choice of amazing actors to bring on to the show. And what that does is allow us to tailor-make an episode for a star, because we know well in advance who wants to be on the show.”
