Christopher Maloney gets a Tattoo
Feb. 6, 2013
X Factor finalist Christopher Maloney grimaced in pain as he sat shirtless in a tattoo parlour getting Bette Midler lyrics inked on his arm.
The Liverpudlian contestant – who was a figure of controversy in last year’s series due to his ‘cheesy’ singing and alleged bad behavior backstage – can be seen getting a rose, a Zayn Malik-esque microphone, and the lyrics from the song ‘The Rose’ permanently etched on his skin in a new YouTube video.
Accompanied by Union J’s Jaymi Hensley and with Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ blaring in the background, Maloney declares: “Ooh, it does bring a tear to your eye, don’t it?” as the tattoo artist puts needle to flesh.
During the clip, Maloney tells the tattooist that he gets stopped by fans “everywhere”, adding: “You forget how many people watch the show and it’s like we’ve got 400, 500,000 people coming to watch the tour.”
Explaining his choice of tattoo further, Maloney told Juice FM: “The microphone and the date is from my first audition, live in front of the judges, because obviously that changed my life and I needed something to commemorate that.
“I want my Granddad’s name on it because it was the song that was played at his funeral, and the song that I sang at the audition, and then the lyrics to the song that I sang at my first audition.”
Speaking to Digital Spy recently, Maloney claimed that both he and his nan are still getting death threats.
“I’m one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet,” he said. “To be honest, the amount of crap I’ve had since the start has been absolutely unbelievable, but I try to take it on the chin.”
