It’s going to be Bette Midler as star of Allan Carr‘s “Melody”–and not Liza Minnelli as the producer first planned.

“The script is being ‘Midlerized, now,” says Carr of the 60s musical being retailored for the performer whom industry insiders are referring to as The New Liza–on the strength of peeks at Bette’s forthcoming ‘Rose.”
