ENTERTAINMENT: Bette Midler: One Night Only (ITV, 9pm)

It’s hard to believe that The Divine Miss M is a year shy of her 70th birthday – okay, so she’s only just turned 69, we’ll give her that – but in all this time in the limelight, having even been transformed into a Simpsons character, starred in her own sitcom, and become renowned as one of the world’s most successful women in the celebrity sphere, she’s never done a UK television special before. Until now.
It’s been 42 years since Bette Midler released her debut album (yep, really), so she’s bound to have plenty of stories to share – and that’s a train of thought that ITV have obviously been down because they’ve pinched her for this One Night Only special, in which she will be chatting about her life and career, and hopefully parting with a few industry secrets too.
She will be performing her biggest ones – she’s had enough of them – including Wind Beneath My Wings and From a Distance.
And to top it all off? The whole thing is hosted by one of our very own leading ladies, Joanna Lumley, in a night that promises great things.
Look Out For: Midler singing the hits of her favourite girl groups throughout the decades.
She says: “I’m looking forward to performing some of my favourite songs and also introducing some wonderful new songs that celebrate iconic girl groups. I love the music these women made. They say behind every great man, there’s a great woman. Well, I think that behind every great woman, there should be at least two other women singing and dancing in perfect unison.”
What channel can I watch this Bette Midler Special on?
It’s in the UK…ITV
