Two experimental films – “Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers” and “The Virgin President”–start off this week’s series of Mississippi River Festival events. The film program starts at 8:30 p.m. today at the MRF site on the campus of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
Tonight’s first experimental film, “Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers,” directed by Robert Kadam with music by Bette Midler, is a “delightful spoof on everything from women’s lib to the ‘in crowd’ “, says “Modern Screen.”
Holly Woodlawn stars as Eve Harrington, who achieves tinsel stardom and a broken heart as she tries to become a Broadway Star.
“The Virgin President” chronicles the state of the nation ”¢when a monumental incompetent becomes president, it features Chicago’s Second City Company and is directed by Graime Ferguson
