Meanwhile, Halmi and associates have set a March I rehearsal start – and April production – for Bette Midler’s loudly trumpeted CBSÂ presentation of “Gypsy.” Casting of Bette’s co-stars is now under way. Halmi, an exec producer on the musical, says “we’re sticking to unknowns” for most of the cast. “Bette Midler is enough of a big name to carry the show and the supporting cast.
