Marshall Magic: A Tribute: The Tribeca Film Festival May 2 at the UA Battery Park Stadium 11

Tribeca to fete Marshall 04/01/2004

The Tribeca Film Festival will fete director Garry Marshall (news), with an onstage interview and a detailed look back over his extensive film and television career. Fest kicks off May 1 with Marshall’s new romantic comedy “Raising Helen,” starring Kate Hudson (news).

Ticketed event is titled “Marshall Magic: A Tribute,” and will take place May 2 at the UA Battery Park Stadium 11. It will include film clips, discussion and audience Q&A.

Marshall has two features opening only three months apart: “Raising Helen,” which also stars John Corbett (news) and Joan Cusack (news), hits theaters May 26, while “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” will bow Aug. 11. Both are Disney releases.

Hudson is expected to attend the fest’s opening gala and to take part in the Marshall tribute. Event will pay particular attention to his special touch in directing actresses, including Julie Andrews (news) and Anne Hathaway (news) in “The Princess Diaries,” Julia Roberts (news) in “Pretty Woman,” Bette Midler (news) in “Beaches” and Michelle Pfeiffer (news) in “Frankie and Johnny.”

The tribute is open to the public and will take in Marshall’s work as director, writer, producer and actor, including his involvement with long-running sitcoms “Happy Days,” “Laverne & Shirley,” “The Odd Couple,” “Mork and Mindy” and “The Dick Van Dyke (news) Show.”

The Tribeca fest runs May 1-9 at a number of Lower Manhattan locations.
