Bette Will Not Be At Kerry Fundraiser

Mister D: Even though I broke this story about Miss M a week ago, sometimes people need to hear it from a legit newspaper….so sadly, here it is!

Just about all the stars on the playlist for Sen. John Kerry’s Radio City Music Hall benefit on July 8 have shuffled their schedules to be there. Dave Matthews, Mary J. Blige, Jon Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Wyclef Jean and others were due to perform this month, but Kerry called off the concert after Ronald Reagan’s death.

So back to the Blackberries for Jann Wenner and co-producers Harvey Weinstein and John Sykes, who also had to organize the Barbra Streisand-Willie Nelson concert in L.A. Only James Taylor and Bette Midler were unable to wriggle out of other contractual obligations.

Between songs, Paul Newman, Whoopi Goldberg, Sarah Jessica Parker and some surprise celebs will riff.

Matthews, who became a U.S. citizen at the age of 13, said, “Whether one is talking about the economy, or the environment, jobs … or the war on terror, John Kerry is the only choice.”
