Miami, FL (CNS) — FundRace 2008, a voyeuristic and increasingly popular online widget, allows visitors to check how much and to whom your fellow neighbors and, most importantly, high profile celebrities have donated during the past election year.
Among the biggest contributors were Zach Braff, star of NBC’s hit show Scrubs, who reportedly donated nearly $15,000 to Barack Obama. Adrian Pasdar, of NBC’s Heroes, donated over $10,000 to the Obama campaign as well.
In fact, the difference in donations from people identifying themselves with the occupation of “Actor” from Democrats to Republicans was astounding. $756,000 from 596 actors, ranging all the way from star of NBC hit shows and movie stars all the way to Walt Disney World stage show actors, were donated to the Democratic campaign, including Obama and Hillary Clinton. By comparison, only $44,621 was donated by actors to the Republican campaign, including John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, and Mitt Romney among others.
Other high-profile Obama supporters who showed their backing with their checkbook included Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Ellen Pompeo, Jesse L. Martin, Edward Norton, Tobey Maguire, Wanda Sykes, Teri Hatcher, Richard Gere, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Garner, Scarlet Johannson, and Jennifer Aniston.
Bette Midler showed her support to both the Obama campaign and Clinton’s campaign, donating a reported $6,900 to both. Clinton also had her faire share of celebrity support, including donations from Ben Stiller, Barbara Streisand, America Ferrera, Renee Zellwegger and Sally Field.
Before he passed, Paul Newman donated $4,600 to both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama’s campaign. Bernie Mac also donated to the Obama campaign before his death in August.
McCain support from the celebrity front was pretty bleak according to FundRace. The biggest support seemed to come back from Dan Akroyd, who donated $2,300. David L. Smith of CBS’ “CSI: Miami” also contributed.
