Bette Midler will headline her first special for network television via the NBC Television Network, according to Irwin Segelstein, Executive vice president, programs, NBC-TV.
The one-hour presentation will be colorcast in 1977 on a date to be announced. Segelstein said, “Bette Midler is a superstar in the truest sense of the word. In a comparatively short time – with just three record albums and three tours to her credit – she has become one of the leading female concert boxoffice draws in the world.
“Whether it be song or comedy or drama, Miss Midler’s ability to reach an audience is remarkable. We at NBC are happy to present Bette in her first starring special for network TV.
“”The NBC-TV special, coupled with the theatrical features she will be doing with Columbia Pictures, makes Bette one of the entertainment industry’s true triple – threat, mult i – media stars,” Segelstein added.
She recently became the first big star to appear in the history – making concert which was taped as a Home Box Office pay-TV special program.
Miss Midler won a Grammy Award as “Best New Artist of the Year” in 1973, the same year her hit album, “The Divine Miss M,” was, nominated for the “Album of the Year” Grammy Award.
