Last week, the biggest names in the food world converged on Chelsea Piers for the annual C-CAP benefit, which raises money so the organization can continue its mission of placing under-served youths in culinary and restaurant careers. This year, the event raised a whopping $800K – which is the most in the history of the benefit. It’s no wonder they were so successful, as chefs like Tom Colicchio and Daniel Boulud hosted tables, while others like Michael Lomonaco and John Fraser were in the house cooking up bites for guests participating in the walk-around tasting (and Marcus Samuelsson was on hand doing a little blogging himself).

The big honoree of the night was chef Michael McCarty, who is known as the “Father of California cuisine” in the industry. He’s the mind behind Michael’s NY and Michael’s Santa Monica, and big name chefs have started their careers in his kitchens, including Jonathan Waxman, Mark Peel, Nancy Silverton and Sang Yoon. He’s raised tons of money for the organization over the years, and none other than Bette Midler was on hand as an honorable co-chair of the event to help bestow the honors on the chef.
