THE BEST LAID PLANS: Bette Midler won’t have to worry about hurrying back to Hollywood when she heads out on concert tour this month. The big-screen project in which she was reportedly all set to team with Joan Rivers has now gone back to the drawing boards – for the umpteenth time, it seems.
This is the same project Rivers wrote years ago, which was bounced from Universal to Paramount, where it was supposed to go before the cameras this spring as a Rivers-Lily Tomlin starrer. After countless rewrites, Tomlin bowed out, Midler was brought in, and finally everything seemed set to go with Joan’s original script.
That was a week or two ago. Now, says Joan, “Paramount has decided to bring in another writer and start all over again.
The way it’s going, we won’t go into production until 1993.
