The San Francisco Symphony is back from its (triumphant, of course) tour. Two glimpses: Back-stage visitors at Carnegie Hall included Bette Midler, Cheyenne Jackson, Elvis Costello and composers John Adams, Mason Bates, Aaron Kernis, David del Tredici, Steven Mackey and Meredith Monk. The pack-alongs included a Cuisinart, a typewriter, basketball, plumber’s pipes and oxygen tanks, all needed for works by Mavericks John Cage and Lou Harrison.
