    1. from what i was told, they are from previous recordings, but she’s written something specific per song as to why she chose it to be on the CD

  1. Hi Don!

Just getting my daily dose of Bootleg Betty and love seeing this post about Bette’s new compilation. I’ve always thought that a collection of her performances of standards — so many gems — should be made available. Since I couldn’t wait for an “official” one — I made my own several years back — this was before both the Clooney and Peggy Lee collections (I would include, obviously, selections from those). Here’s my track listing for my CD which I call the collection “Bette Midler-Somewhere Along the Way.” A note: neither “Love Says It’s Waiting,” “I Never Talk to Strangers,” or “I Sold My Heart to the Junkman” are genuine standards though the “Strangers” definitely has the “feel” of a standard (and the duet between Bette and Tom Waits certainly places it mentally in a smoky bar circa 1949). The gorgeous arrangement for “Junkman” and Bette’s girl band vocal also firmly places it in the “standard” category. As for “Love Says It’s Waiting, well…it is a particular guilty pleasure of mine — it doesn’t really fit in here though the string laden arrangement helps it to squeak by in my opinion.
