Bette Midler Defends Al Franken by Going After His Accuser — Yikes
JULIO ROSAS | NOV 22, 2017 | 9:35 AM
Actress Bette Midler has seemed to come to Sen. Al Franken’s (D-MN) defense by attacking radio personality Leeann Tweeden, the first woman to come forward with the accusations of sexual assault and harassment, along with a picture where it shows Franken groping her while she slept.
In a tweet, Midler posted a link to the front page of the now-defunct FHM magazine, a men’s lifestyle publication, with an almost-nude Tweeden.
“This is Al Frankel’s accuser,” Midler posted:
People were shocked to see Midler go after Tweeden:
Midler is not the only person to come to Franken’s defense. On Tuesday, 36 women who were on the cast and crew of “Saturday Night Live,” wrote a letter saying they never experience anything inappropriate from him.
In the letter, they called what he did “stupid and foolish.”
It appears that Bette has deleted the tweet–I can’t find it.
However, if you go to 2:08 of the below link, you can see LeeAnn Tweeden shimmy up to a male singer in the 2009 USO Show with Al Franken, he pushes her away, and then she (jokingly) grabs him in the ass. [BTW, the clip starts out with Bette’s recording of “Stuff Like That There” from “For the Boys”]

I understand the moral high ground with all of this behavior, but the hypocrisy and double standard makes it difficult to sort out true harassment from “oh, please, really?” The accusation against George Takei has been unsubstantiated (and apparently dropped–he’s back tweeting away like crazy), and the accusation against actor Jeremy Piven forced him to take a batter of lie detector tests–passing all of them to help maintain his reputation.
I hate to get on the soapbox here, but IMHO anyone who waits up to 40 years to report a crime, has apparently gotten over it. Happy Thanksgiving!
I agree. And I don’t like how they’re lumpimg evrything from the minute to the horrendous under the title of sexual predator
