Too bad Midler faces such tough Emmy competition
July 24, 1992
TWO FOR THE SEESAW: It’s a pity that Bette Midler, dynamite in her appearance with Johnny Carson the night before he retired from “Tonight,” is matched in the Emmy nominations against Natalie Cole for her memorable PBS tribute to her late father, Nat King Cole.
Both are up for individual performance in a variety or music program – and the competition’s tough: Other nominees include Dana Carvey for “Saturday Night Live,” Billy Crystal for hosting the Academy Awards and George Carlin for an HBO special.
